Waterpebble
Product designer Paul Priestman is working with Dry Planet to launch his award-winning Waterpebble – a revolutionary water saving device designed to reduce the water we use by changing the way we behave.
Winner of the UK's Future Friendly Award for Best Innovation in 2008, the Waterpebble is a simple, inspirational solution to saving water.
Using a Waterpebble helps people save water, save energy and save money by reducing water usage for simple daily tasks such as having a shower.
By sensing the water flowing around it, Waterpebble automatically times your first shower and remembers it!
Using that time as a benchmark, a series of soft, flashing lights indicate how much time you’re spending in future showers compared to the benchmark - When it flashes red, your time is up.
Over a number of showers the time taken to reach the flashing red light slowly reduces to 2/3rds of the original time, encouraging you to gradually reduce the time you spend in the shower and helping you to save water, energy and money.
Waterpebble doesn't need fitting; it can be carried around and just sits anywhere where water can flow around it, such as near the shower plug. You don't even need to switch it on or off.
Waterpebble could help reduce the average shower to less than 6 minutes saving over 20 litres of hot water every time.
Waterpebble can be branded with logos or messages for orders of more than 5,000.
Waterpebble's battery currently isn't replaceable but should last around 4 months of normal usage – the Waterpebble can then be recycled or returned to us at Dry Planet so we can make it into a new one.

Paul Priestman is the founding director of Priestmangoode, one of the UK's leading design companies specialising in product, environment and transport design. As well as his own designs he has been lead consultant for major projects for Airbus, BAA and BT.
